SHS Participates in ESU #6 High School Quiz Bowl
Launch the media gallery 1 playerTwo teams from Seward High School participated in the recent ESU #6 High School Quiz Bowl at the Seward Civic Center in Seward on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 all day.
The annual contest featured 30 schools in two divisions, large school and small school.
Seward High participated in the large school division.
The SHS team members included Team A Daniel Pfeiffer, Zach Bruick, Alyssa Sleight, Carl Heinicke and Brandon O’Dell. Team B for SHS included Joey Couch, Dillon Holder, Brock Lewis, Sierra Wignall and Emily Thrailkill. Their coach is Clark Kolterman.
The quiz bowl schedule included a round robin contest in the morning, with the Seward Team A winning all four contests-defeating Centennial, Norris, Malcolm and Wilber-Clatonia. Seward’s Team B won two and lost two contests in the morning contests, defeating Crete and Fillmore Central, losing to Norris and Milford. In the afternoon single elimination contest, Seward Team A was placed 2nd and Seward Team B was placed 5th. In the afternoon, Seward A defeated Wilber High and lost to Malcolm. Seward Team B defeated Milford High and Centennial High and lost in the semi-finals to Norris. Norris eventually won the tourney in the big school division and Exeter-Milligan won the small school division.

Many of the readers, judges and assistants were volunteers from the local ESU #6 staff. Marian Eicher, of ESU #6 served as the Quiz Master, assisted by Clark Kolterman and Jason Shaffer of Seward High.
