SHS One Act Casts Selected for 2011
The annual Evening of One Acts will again be held at Seward High on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. It will feature three comedies, featuring Seward High students and directed by Clark Kolterman, assisted by Concordia student directors, Nick Lee of Seward and Nathaniel Bellin of Racine Wisconsin. The one act plays include Cinderella’s Shakespeare by Lindsey Craig, The Taming of LaRue by L. R. Kracz, and Comin’ ‘Round The Mountain by Ned Albert.
The characters in Cinderella’s Shakespeare include… Narrator-Micah Moravec, Cinderella-Jaclyn Pennington (Heroine), Aunt Bragonia (the wicked aunt)-Andrea von Kampen, Bertha (the evil cousin)-McKenzie Hemphill, Belinda (the other evil cousin)-Amanda Owens, Henry (the dog)-Brandon O’Dell, Tic (Mouse)-Nicole Canning, Tac (Mouse)-Stefanie Rinne, Squire (Member of the Court)-Doug Simpson, Page-Titus Kromminga, Simon (the Cat)-Haley Newburn, Fairy Godmother-Alyssa Sleight, King/Tall Clown-Dillon Holder, Aristotle(Assistant Fairy)-Allison Leising, Socrates (Assistant Fairy) Alyssa Winterfeld, Prince-Zach Bruick, Men at the Ball-C.J. Johnson, Jimmy Steinauer, Brinson Chapp, Maidens at the Ball-Bethany Rexus, Nikki Seizys, Ashley Jensen, Jessica Kadavy. This is the typical Cinderella story with a few twists (and turns); including talking animals, a silly Fairy Godmother and a Cinderella with an intellect. The student director is senior, Nick Lee of Concordia University.
The one act The Taming of Larue by L. R. Kracz, is a western, comedy version of Shakespeare’s famous Taming of the Shrew. Characters include Deputy Joe-Curtis Koch, Miss Ophelia-Calin ten Benzel, Miss Lucretia-Kaylee Schmutte, Gabby-Wyatt Dybdal, Gold Dust-C.J. Johnson, Stinky Jones-Josh George, Bobbie-Hannah Moody, Andy-Evan Marshall, Gus Gizzard-Jerry Welborn, Horace Feathers Austin Van Velson, Larry-Kyle Glandt, Uncle Theo-Ian Hendrickson, Pete- Dillon Holder, Beanca Kennedy Schaefer, Bobcat Larue-Josh Rolfsmeyer, Kate-Sydney Van der Heijden.
The third one act for SHS is a hillbilly comedy Comin’ ‘Round the Mountain by Ned Albert, which features a family in the hills visited by a society duo that was lost and robbed. Characters selected for the play include Maw Judkins-Sierra Wignall, Pap Judkins-Brinson Chapp, Daisy Judkins-Sophie Mueller, Zeke Bemis-Jimmy Steinhauer, Dynamite Ann the Sheriff- Lauren Shepherd, Mrs. Hortense Belmont-Cliff-Hailey Brown, Millicent Lovell-Emily Thrailkill, Carey Newbold-Elijah Hayes.
The show Cinderella’s Shakespeare is the selected play for the Central Conference Play Production Contest on November 19th and NSAA District One Act/Play Production contest TBA. The shows are all underwritten with a generous grant from the Seward Booster’s Club. The shows will perform one night only-November 8th, hosted by the SHS FBLA. There will be no advanced sales of seats. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door.
