Seward High Participates in Girl’s Only Quiz Bowl Tourney 2011

Seward High School was represented at the recent “Girl’s Only” Quiz Bowl tourney held in Seward at the Seward Civic Center on Wednesday, October 19^th, 2011 with two teams.  The annual tourney was sponsored by the GFWC Nebraska Federation of Woman’s Clubs and hosted locally by members of the GFWC Seward Woman’s Club.  The teams were sponsored by the GFWC Seward Woman’s Club, GFWC Seward Junior Woman’s Club and the School District of Seward High Ability Learner Program (HAL). 

SHS Team A included Sierra Wignall-Captain, Jackie Uhing, Emily Thrailkill, Jaclyn Pennington and Megan Seilhan.  Team B membership was Allison Leising-Captain, Shannon Jindra, Rebecca Couch, Amanda Owens and Kennedy Sloan.  The teams each won one and lost two games in the morning round-robin tourney for placement in the afternoon’s tourney.  In the afternoon’s single elimination tourney,  SHS Team A lost to Bellevue West High School Team A and SHS Team B lost to Bellevue East High School Team B.  Elkhorn South won the Big School Division of the Tourney and Fillmore Central was first place in the Small School Division.

Local volunteers assisting the tourney included members of the GFWC Seward Woman’s Club as the tourney host, with Jean Kolterman the event chairman.  Readers for the tourney included volunteers Sue Imig, Bonnie Jo Kruse, Pat Ohlman, Matt Honeycutt, all of Seward, Pat Rohrig of Friend, a Concordia University Freshman, Jeff Johnson of Utica Centennial and Cathi McMurtry of Oakland.

Timers and scorekeepers included Trent Beckler, Alex Bainter, Brandon O’Dell, Micah Moravec, Sethea Spidell, Ariel Spidell, Eric Turner, Jimmy Steinauer, Payton Guenther and Garret Hallberg.
