Seward Quiz Bowl Team is Runner-Up in Omaha Bryan HS 2012 Meet
Launch the media gallery 1 playerThe Seward Novice Quiz Bowl Team B was named first runner-up at the recent Omaha Bryan Quiz Bowl tourney on Saturday, November 10th in Omaha. The team members were Austin Van Velson-Captain, Kyler Nolan, Elise Bohning and Emma Orwin.
Seward High entered four teams in the large tourney-two Advanced and two Novice. The teams participated in a series of Round Robin contests in the morning and a single elimination tourney in the afternoon.
Team members included-Advanced Team A-Nathan Sorsen and Josh George-Co-Captains, Matt Wunderlich and Ben Galusha. Advanced Team B-Hannah Moody-Captain, Shelby Lewis, Chase Nissen and Kristie Einspahr. Novice Team A-Alexa Bruick-Captain, Wil Helmer, Montanna Hill, Josh Hendricksen and Megan Runyan. Novice Team B-Austin Van Velson-Captain, Kyler Nolan, Elise Bohning and Emma Orwin.
In the morning, SHS Advanced Team A defeated Nebraska City and Elkhorn South and lost to Norris. SHS Advance B team lost to Elkhorn S, Westside and Elkhorn High and defeated Norris. Novice Team A defeated Omaha Christian and lost to Nebraska City and Elkhorn in the morning rounds and Novice Team B won all their morning matches-defeating Fremont, Marian HS and Norris.
In the afternoon single elimination tourney, SHS Advanced Team A lost to Omaha Christian and SHS Advanced Team B lost to Norris High School. The Elkhorn South High team won the tourney.
In the Novice tourney, Seward Novice team A defeated Omaha Christian and then lost to Seward Team B. Seward Novice Team B defeated Columbus, Seward Team A, Norris Team A and lost to Gretna. Gretna won the tourney and Norris placed third.
The SHS Quiz Bowl teams were sponsored by the School District of Seward High Ability Learner Program (HAL). Clark Kolterman served as the team coach/sponsor.
There were 49 teams in the tourney, including schools, Elkhorn, Elkhorn South, Omaha Westside, Norris, Marian, Columbus, Gretna, Fremont, Nebraska City, Seward, Omaha Christian and Bryan High Schools.
