SHS Sophomore, Alexa Bruick, Named Conference Speech Champion

Alexa Bruick, an SHS Sophomore, was named the Champion Speaker at the Central Conference Speech Tourney on Friday, Feb. 28th at Crete High School in the Extemporaneous Speaking Division-winning the first place Conference medal in Extemporaneous Speaking. Also, making finals and winning medals were Chase Nissen-Third Place-Extemporaneous Speaking, Kyler Nolan-Humorous Speaking-Second Place, Hailey Brown-Poetry-Fifth Place, Hannah Moody and MaKenzie Hemphill-Duet-Fourth Place and Ian Hendricksen, Wyatt Dybdal, Alyssa Winterfeld, Sienna Dyell and Kyle Glandt-Drama Team-Second Place Medal.Eleven SHS students received medals at the Central Conference speech meet.

SHS students receiving Superior ratings included Alexa Bruick, Chase Niessen, Kyler Nolan, Levi Dybdal, Wyatt Dybdal, Alyssa Winterfled, Sienna Dyell, Kyle Glandt, MaKenzie Hemphill, Montana Hill, Austin Van Velson, Emma Orwen, Hailey Brown, Evan Marshall, Jake Marshall, Hannah Moody, Hailey Brown.Each school was allowed to enter two entries in each of the nine areas of competition.Seward High entered a full team.Their speech coach is Clark Kolterman.

The SHS team placed 5th of the ten schools participating.The winning school was York High, followed by Columbus Lakeview, Crete, Grand Island Northwest and Seward.Other schools participating were Aurora,Holdrege, Schuyler, Central City,and Fairbury.The SHS Speech team will compete at their NSAA District Level in Wayne on March 18th at Wayne State College, hosted by Wayne High School.
