Three Seward High Students Compete at NSAA State Speec h Contest
Three students from Seward High qualified for the Nebraska School Activities Association’s (NSAA) State Speech Tourney in the Class B Division on Thursday, March 26, 2015. SHS Juniors Alexa Bruick and Will Helmer competed in Extemporaneous Speaking and Kyle Rojewski competed in Serious Prose Literature.
Alexa and Will each presented two speeches, after drawing a topic on an international or domestic issue and having one hour to prepare and memorize their 5-7 minute speech. Kyle prepared the prose presentation “The Laramie Project” by Moises Kaufman. All three students received superior ratings at State.
Also attending the State Speech event were SHS students that were named District Medalists but did not qualify as State Finalist-Megan Runyan in Persuasive Speaking and Levi Dybdal in Entertainment Speaking. Clark Kolterman serves as their speech judge, assisted by Stephanie Shearer of Arapahoe, who is a Junior Concordia University in Seward.
