Elsa Rondon Medina of Lima, Peru is Seward Rotary Exchange Student at SHS

Elsa Rondon Medina of Lima, Peru is Seward Rotary Exchange Student at SHS. She arrived last Tuesday, August 18 and started school immediately.  Her sponsoring Rotary Club during her visit to the USA for this year will be the Seward Rotary Club.  Her first host family is the Brad and Jill Perdue Family of Seward and their daughters Makenna and Macy.

She was introduced to the club at their weekly meeting on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 and presented with a Seward Rotary banner and some mementos to welcome her to the USA. She presented a flag of Peru to the club and special ball hats from Peru to the various members of the Seward Rotary instrumental to her visit here in the states.  She also met Rotary District Governor Rod Bates while at the meeting, as he was the program for the day.

Elsa is taking a variety of classes at SHS and also taking some “online classes” at Lima, Peru-so she can ‘officially’ graduate this next year in Peru.  She is the daughter of Ramiro Rondon and Elsa Medina.  She has two siblings-Ramiro Rondon-27 and Edvardo Rondon-21.  Her interests include volleyball, running and basketball.  She has also been involved as a model in Peru.

Elsa was the guest of Rotary District 5650 at the recent Rotary District Conference in Council Bluffs-along with the other Rotary Exchange students from around the world.  She is the only student from Peru to be placed Rotary District 5650 and she carried Peru’s national flag in their presentation of nations at the Rotary Conference in Council Bluffs. While at the Conference, she visited Omaha and traveled with the Perdue family to Red Oak, Iowa as well.

Her local Rotary Sponsor is Ken Schmieding, and her Rotary School contact is Rotarian Clark Kolterman at SHS, along with guidance counselor Noelle Baker.  The Seward Rotary has also sent a student to Peru-Makenna Aldrich, an SHS Junior, who will be attending school there and return to Seward next spring.  She is also involved in the Rotary Exchange program through Rotary District 5650
