Seward Rotary Club Donates Student Dictionaries---“PROJECT DICTIONARY!”
The Seward Rotary Club donated dictionaries to the area Third Grade Students at Seward Elementary, Our Redeemer Lutheran and St. Vincent de Paul Elementary School. Each student in the Third Grade will receive a student dictionary. Extra dictionaries were also donated to give to new arrivals in each classroom. Note: St. John Lutheran 3rd Grade received their dictionaries from a memorial from Esther and Truman Prange Memorial from the Prange family.
The Rotary Dictionaries were presented in honor of long time School District of Seward retired teacher- Pat Ohlmann of Seward. She is now an active community volunteer involved with a host of activities in the community, her church and Concordia University. She is one of the key volunteers for the annual Plum Creek Children’s Literacy Festival each fall-promoting and selling books for the festival! The Rotary felt is most appropriate to honor her through this “book” distribution and thank her for her years of service!
Classrooms receiving the dictionaries include the classrooms of Michelle Smith, Sherry Menze, Suzi Paseka and Deb Snell –all at Seward Elementary, Kathy Smedra at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School and the Third Grade class at Our Redeemer in Staplehurst.
Local members of the Seward Rotary Club presented the dictionaries to the classes, discussed the dictionaries and showed them some of the added features in each dictionary.
This is an annual national project of many of the Rotary Clubs to promote literacy in our schools. Local Rotarians presenting dictionaries included John Owens, Clark Kolterman, Ken Schmieding, Chuck Matzke and Jan Matzke, Jonathan Metschke, Greg Zabka and Brad Perdue.
