Nathan Nottingham Honored as the March Youth Rotarian

SHS Senior, Nathan Nottingham of Seward, was selected as the Youth Rotarian for the month of March and honored and recognized by the Seward Rotary Club on Wednesday, March 9th, 2022 at the noon Rotary Luncheon meeting in the Jones Bank Auditorium.  He is the son of Dana (Dad) and Danna (Mom) of Seward, Nebraska.  He was introduced by Rotarian Anita Foor, recognized and thanked for his excellence and leadership during his high school career.

Academics is important to Nathan, as he is one of the academic senior leaders at Seward High.  He has always been on the SHS Honor Roll and enjoys a 4.1 Grade Point Average, with a score of 33 on his ACT Score.  He is a leader in the SHS National Honor Society and earned the Academic All-State Award in 2019, 2020, and 2021.  He has enjoyed four Advanced Placement Classes-Human Geography, US History, Calculus and Biology-all with top scores!  He was one of the leaders on the SHS Academic Decathlon Team, which placed second in the Regional Contest and was awarded several medals in the Honors Division.  

Nathan has been a leader in athletics at SHS and a leader on the SHS Cross Country Team, for five years.  He was the Team Captain for two years and a three-time Varsity Letter awardee.  He was named All Conference in 2019-2020, All District in 2019-2020 and All-State Recognition in 2019.  He also loves track and was the Distance Track Team Captain in 2021.  

Nathan has a beautiful singing voice and participated in the Concordia University Honor Choir and a three year member of the SHS Select Choir.  

Nathan has been nominated by his teachers for numerous P.R.I.D.E. Awards for his consideration and kindness both in the classroom and on campus.  He is also an active member of the SHS Skills USA program and competed with various contests at the State Level.  He has also participated in various SHS Quiz Bowl competitions.  

His work experience is with Sloup - Thorell Detasseling Company - detasseling for the last five years and roguing for the last four years.  He has also been involved in landscaping employment, working with rocks and moving over 45 ton of rock in the summer of 2018.  

Nathan is a member of The CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF THE LATTER DAY SAINTS in Seward and serves as a voice of youth in their church. He is a leader in the church’s local Youth Committee the last five years and participated in the Regional Youth Committee in Lincoln the last three years.

He has been a member of the Seward Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)-planning, preparing and helping with various community service projects of the local FCA.

His hobbies and interests include playing the piano, singing, making music in general, running, rock climbing and just being outside.  

His major areas of service revolve around his church and has served as the volunteer Church organist for the last three years-every Sunday from 2019-2021.  He also assists and serves as the head coordinator for meal planning for the local missionaries in the Greater Seward area.

Nathan has not declared a college yet but is leaning towards Brigham Young University (BYU), noting that both his parents, sisters and older brother attended BYU in Provo, Utah.  

Nathan was presented a bag of mementos and information on Rotary from the Rotary Club, along with one of the official Rotary Club banners and a Book Scholarship from the Rotary Club.  His name will be placed in nomination as a finalist for the Seward Rotary Club Scholarship and will again be honored and recognized at the annual SHS Honors Night in May, with the other Youth Rotarians for this school year.

The Rotary Club honors one Senior a Month, during the school year and applications can be obtained from the Seward High School counselor.
