SMS Places Second and Fourth in State AMI Quiz Bowl Event.

NE AMI Holds State 2022 Middle School Quiz Bowl in Seward –Features 55 Teams!

The Nebraska America Mothers, Inc (NAMI) held their annual State Middle School General Knowledge Quiz Bowl on Wednesday, November 9th at the Seward Civic Center in Seward, Nebraska.  The event featured 55 teams from schools across the state, competing by teams to answer questions of general knowledge.  A round robin tourney was held in the morning, where each team played three rounds of competition and the afternoon featured a single elimination tourney, with seeding based on wins, losses and points generated.  Each team was guaranteed a minimum of four rounds for the tourney.

The Seward Middle School had two teams in the event and placed Second and Fourth overall. Team B included Left to Right- Jackson Kreifels, Izayah Lavicky, Lexi Solano, Emerson Rucker, Jalen Schultz, and Nicholas Wegman.  Team A placed Fourth and included Alex Kinney-Daniels, Samantha Quist, Kaden Brown, Ella Gabriel, Isaac Hiser, and Cody Jacobsen. 

 

The event was divided into three tourneys in one - with three Middle School Tourney’s, featuring a Large, Medium and Small Middle School Tourney based on NSAA guidelines and numbers.  Each winning team won an engraved trophy and individual medals for each student, the Runner-up team also won a trophy and there was also a consolation bracket for teams to place third and fourth in the tourney.

The Large Middle School Tourney the winner was Gretna’s Aspen Creek MS Team A-Coach Jill Grant, Second Place-Seward MS Team B –Coach Laura Trautman, Third Place-Gretna MS Team A-Coach Jill Frederick and Fourth Place-Seward MS Team A-Coach Laura Trautman. 

In the Medium Middle School Tourney the winner was Malcom-Coach Troy Pritchett, Second Place-Oakland/Craig Team B-Coach Michael Menish, Third Place-Fairbury Team A, Fourth Place-Centennial Team A-Coach Laura Pulliam.

In the Small Middle School Tourney the winner was McCool Junction-Coach Jabe Wurtz, Second Place-Shelby/Rising City Team B-Coach John Schoenrock, Third Place-Thayer Central Team B-Coach Kristy Lukert, Fourth Place-Shelby/Rising City Team A-Coach John Schoenrock.

The Quiz Bowl Master for the event was Riley Nuttleman with Clark Kolterman serving as the event coordinator.  Jean Kolterman served as the NAMI Project Chairman.  Volunteer readers for the tourney were Sue Imig, Bonnie Kruse and Pat Ohlmann all of Seward, Joyce Stevens and Mary Ann Wortmann of Crofton, Ginger McGurk of Bennington, Kim Vogt from Creighton, Laura McGurk from Omaha, Jenni Erhart of Osceola, Karen Drevo of Crete, Nancy and Stan Meyer of Geneva,  and  .  Volunteer timers and scorers were the coaches and teammates of the student teams. Marilyn Walz of Bennington volunteered at the registration and calculation desk and served as the host for the noon luncheon for the readers, coaches and drivers.

A special note of appreciation was extended to Erin Wiseman, who coordinated the facilities for the NAMI tourney at the Civic Center.

The annual event is sponsored by the Nebraska AMI, are Nebraska mothers who, since 1935, have joined together to educate, Inspire, and recognize mothers through programs that teach, support and honor moms, empowering them to positively impact their families and communities. The vision is to help Mothers discover their innate abilities to elevate future generations. The NAMI values include Mentor - by connecting mothers with others who can help them maneuver the complexities of motherhood, Educate – to assist in educating mothers on topics that develop their innate abilities to build strong families, SUPPORT – to work and support efforts that benefit women and children by providing grants to nonprofit organizations and HONOR – to recognize, thank and honor outstanding mothers through the “Mother of the Year” Award and other recognitions.
