Austin Schroeder is the March Youth Rotarian

Austin Schroeder, SHS Senior, was selected the March Youth Rotarian of the Month and introduced and honored at the recent Seward Rotary Club luncheon on Wednesday, March 8 at noon at the Jones Bank auditorium in Seward. He is the son of Liz Neeley and Rob Schroeder of Seward.  He was introduced to the membership by Rotarian Anita Foor.

Austin is a scholar and proud of his 3.9 GPA and an ACT score of 31, He has taken many college dual credit and AP classes during his high school career and will have a jump on classes when he gets to the university.  He is a leader of the SHS Quiz Bowl Team.  He is a past member of the SHS Leadership Team and the recipient of the Rural Law Opportunities Program in Chadron and a finalist in the Kearney Rural Law Opportunities Program Scholarship Holder,  as well as an Omaha World Herald Scholarship finalist.

He has been involved in the SHS One Act Play Production contest for many years and won numerous Outstanding Actor Awards at both Conference and District levels.  He is also a member of the SHS Speech team, competing this year in the area of “Entertaining Speaking.” In his Entertaining Speech he spoke and entertained on his experiences at work at the Seward Rivoli Theater.  

Austin is a member of the Seward High Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and competed and won many awards and recognition at their state FBLA Conferences.  He is the current SHS FBLA Vice President and past SHS FBLA Parliamentarian.    He also competed and won awards at several UNK Loper Invitational Business Competitions and the Wayne State Business Competition.  He is also a leader and member of the SHS Yearbook staff and is the Seward High Social Media Contest Creator.

Austin is a past member of the SHS Bluejay Pep Band and a longtime member and leader with the SHS Golf Team.

His current employment centers on the Rivoli Theater in Seward and has enjoyed also working the fields as a detassler for Sloup/Thorell Detasseling.  

He is a member of the Seward United Methodist Church in Seward and his volunteer opportunities have centered on the “Volunteer Lawyer’s Project” in Lincoln, as well as the SHS FBLA and their community service projects.  He has also volunteered at the Seward United Methodist Church and with the Seward High Leadership Team (Student Council) and their many activities. He also volunteered with the Seward Friends of the Library projects and worked as a volunteer at the concession stand at the SHS sporting events. 

Austin plans attend the University of Nebraska at Kearney this fall.  He plans to major in Sociology or Political Science and eventually become a lawyer.  

He was presented a packet of materials from the Seward Rotary Club and a Rotary banner, along with the Rotary Book Scholarship and is now a finalist for the Youth Rotarian of the Year, which will be announced at the SHS Spring Honors Night in May.

Applications for Youth Rotarian of the Month are available to SHS Seniors by contacting the SHS Counselor’s office.  One Youth Rotarian award is presented monthly during the school year.
