SHS Academic Decathlon Team places First Runner-up in Medium School Competition
The SHS Academic Decathlon Team competed in the Regional Ne Academic Decathlon Competition - January 18, 2023 in an on-line contest, due to cancellation of school that day because of snow. The SHS Academic Decathlon Team Members included Eli Adams, Jackson Anderson, Dharma Brauer, Noah Brumm, Jacob DeGroot, Ainsley Hotovy, Lydia Lobmeyer, Jacob Mason, Ben Meehl, Austin Schroeder, Luke Wegman, and Ethan Woolard. They were coached by SHS Educator Noelle Baker.
The team was sponsored locally by the School District of Seward High Ability Learner program and the Seward Optimist Club. Optimist club members serve as the test monitors and furnished the team with new AD team tee shirts.
AD Team members-SHS Seniors - Lydia Lobmeyer and Anisley Hotovy attended the recent Optimist Club meeting with coach Noelle Baker and reported on the experience, thanking the Seward Optimist Club for their support. The students and Mrs. Baker were each thanked for their presentation and presented with gift certificates from the Seward Dairy Queen.
The students each competed in a series of tests including math, literature, language, art, music, economics, science and social science-all on line. Awards and medals were presented to the students in the three areas of Honors, Scholastic and Varsity levels. The novel studied this year was “Wieland” or “The Transformation of An American Tale.” The theme for this year’s contest was “The American Revolution and the New Nation.”
The results were as followed with the Seward Team capturing a record 53 medals in the tourney and named First Runner-up Medium School Division.
