Annual "Bluejay Way Community Service Day" is a Success in 2023!

There were 47 high school students and four middle school students' that volunteered and assisted in the annual "Bluejay Way" Community Service Day on Sunday, April 15, 2023. The day promoted community service at Seward High School and coordinated opportunities for the students to add to their community service hours. The school and community introduced various venues to serve as opportunities for the students to add to their community service hours or begin their community service program.

Each graduate at Seward High is required to complete 30 hours of community service as a qualification for graduation.

There were three teachers from SHS assisting with this event. Jordan Hinrichs was at the National Guard Museum and then the fairgrounds. Lynette Petersen was helping out at the Seward County Historical Society Museum in Goehner with a group of 15 students. Ashlee Rickert assisted at the Parade of Flags along with members of the Seward Kiwanis Club. Other community members volunteered and assisted in guiding the students throughout the event in supervisory positions during the day.

This event has been coined "The Bluejay Way," and it was labeled a success for our students and community. All in all, there were 51 students, three teachers, extra adult volunteers at each location, along with members from the Seward Kiwanis Club, which amounts to around 60 people helping out at five locations!

The duties at each of the locations included....

The Parade of Flags - Cleaning up the grounds and replacing flags that required a fresh flag.

Fairgrounds - Cleaning miscellaneous items at the Seward County Ag Pavillion and the Harvest Hall.

National Guard Museum - Clean up the rock gardens at the front of the building and rake up leaves and grass at the front of the building.

Goehner-Seward County Historical Society Museum - Cleaned up the grounds around the buildings, cleaned inside the buildings and cleaned up the exhibits.

Civic Center - cleaned closets, cabinets and kitchens, sorted and bundled tourism brochures, set up displays and boxed aluminum tabs for Ronald McDonald House and organized cupboards with quiz bowl equipment!

Each of the locations continues to offer community service opportunities for volunteers.
