SHS Enjoys Strong Leadership on the “State Level” with Two Students Elected at State Conferences

SHS has some stong student leadership and this was evident recently, as two students from Seward High were recently elected to a state office or board at their local school organization’s state conference.  SHS Sophomore Landan Waegli was elected to the State Skills USA State Officer Board and SHS Jena Eberspacher was elected State President of the State Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) at their conference.

“It is an honor for a school to have just one state officer during a specific school year,” noted Mr. Wade Miller, the SHS FBLA Advisor, “For two state officers to be elected from a small school really demonstrates the high level of student leadership our students enjoy.  We are very proud both of these students, who are willing to “step up and serve” on the state level and look forward to supporting them.  This is the first time Seward High has had a student from SHS elected State President of the FBLA.”

“These student leaders will be attending many local school club chapters with specific visits and travel to many regional and national gatherings of students, representing their specific organization and Seward and Nebraska,” noted Skills USA Advisor Kurt Holliday.  “We have enjoyed many state officers for Skills USA from our chapter over the years and each one has benefited greatly from the experience. We are happy for both of these student leaders and wish both Landan and Jena all the best. It will be a busy and fast year of service for both of them and will be fun to watch them grow and mature from their involvement at the state and national level.

The students both recently attended the weekly Seward Rotary Club meeting and were introduced and congratulated. They were introduced by Rotarians Senator Mark Kolterman and Greg Zabka and presented with the special Rotary Club banners.

SHS Sophomore, Landan Waegli, the son of Greg and Joni Waegli, was recently elected to be a State Board Member and officer for the State’s Skills, USA.  He and the other elected board members will decide on the officer positions when then gather for their orientation meeting.  His advisor in Kurt Holliday, one of the vocational education teachers at Seward High. He will be attending the National Skills USA Conference in Atlanta this summer.

Jena Eberspacher, a SHS Junior, is the daughter of Jill and John Eberspacher.
