Brinson Chapp Honored by Seward Rotary as the Youth Rotarian of the Month for May

Seward High Senior, Brinson Chapp of Seward, was honored and recognized by the Seward Rotary Club as the May Youth Rotarian of the Month.  He was introduced to the membership of the Seward Rotary at their weekly, noon luncheon meeting on Wednesday, May 2 at the Jones National Bank and Trust and presented several mementos from the Rotary Club, their banner, information on Rotary and a Rotary book scholarship by Seward Rotarian Pastor Scott Bruick.  Brinson is the son of Chris and Randy Chapp of Seward.

Brinson is a serious student at Seward High school.  He is a long time member of the National Honor Society and always on the Honor Roll at SHS.  He has been recognized as the SHS Student of the Month.  He is a leader in the classroom.  His education is a priority and he has worked very hard to achieve a high level of success with his studies.  He enjoys a 4.0 grade point average and served as a popular Outdoor Education Counselor with our Middle School each fall.

Brinson is a student leader at Seward High School.  He is very organized and dedicated to a variety of interests.  He has been very involved as a leader in the SHS FFA local FFA Chapter, serving on the FFA Board as a Vice President for two years and a FFA District finalist in public speaking.  The SHS FFA Chapter is one of the largest in Nebraska.  The SHS FFA Chapter has been recognized as one of the best FFA Chapters in the nation under Brinson’s leadership.

For four years Brinson has been a leader with our school’s Student Council.  He has participated as a member of the SHS Quiz Bowl team, was involved in two of our One Act plays this year and participated as a member of the Speech team, in the area of Persuasive Public Speaking.  He was the District VFW  “Voice of Democracy” winner last year and a finalist again this year.

He has been involved in a variety of athletic activities at SHS as well, as he has been involved in Cross Country, Basketball and Soccer.  His recent focus has been directed towards his academic achievement, even though he has been involved as an athlete throughout high school.   He received the NSAA Academic All State Award in 2010 in Soccer.

He is an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward and involved in their local youth program called Godparents.  He readily volunteers for his church and enjoys working with the youth of the community as a volunteer.

Brinson is employed outside of school at the Movie Place Video and local Theater and his strong work ethic is a testimony to the success he has enjoyed in the work force, both during the summer and afterschool and week-ends.  He also works in the fields during the summer, detasseling corn and is given additional responsibilities because of his performance level.

Brinson plans to be a Biological Systems Engineer and hopes to eventually be accepted to medical school with the goal of becoming a neurosurgeon.

Concerning the requirement of “Serivice Above Self,” Brinson feels “Service Above Self” is a lifestyle.  He has been very involved in assisting and helping other young people in various academic and athletic venues.  He has coached and tutored students and looks forward to helping coach and tutor again this summer.  He assists with Food Net and the local Backpack program in Seward.  He wants to eventually become a doctor to also serve and help others, as they have given service to him.

Brinson and the other nine local Seward Youth Rotarians of the Month will be honored at the approaching SHS Honors Night, where they will be introduce and recognized.  At the Honors Night, one of the ten Youth Rotarians will be named the Youth Rotarian of the Year for their “Service Above Self”  and receive the “Service Above Self” scholarship.  “Service Above Self” is the theme/slogan for the Seward Rotary and Rotary International.   The local program is funded by the membership of the Seward Rotary Club.
