Hannah Kolterman-Wagner is April Youth Rotarian of the Month

Seward High Senior, Hannah Kolterman-Wagner was selected the Seward Rotary Club Youth Rotarian of the month for the month of April. She is the daughter of Amanda Kolterman and David Wagner.  Hannah was recognized and honored at the April 21 Seward Rotary Club meeting at the Seward Civic Center and was presented with various materials and mementos from the Seward Rotary Club, along with a Rotary Club Book Scholarship. She was introduced to the Rotary Club by Matt Dominy.  

Hannah values academics and has been on the SHS Honor Roll every semester of her High School career and has a GPA of 4.11 -  Cum Laude.  She has been recognized numerous times with the SHS P.R.I.D.E. Award, nominated by many teachers at Seward High School.  She was a member of the SHS Academic Decathlon Team, participating in the Regional contest-winning eight medals and the SHS team qualified for the State contest as well.

She has also been involved in a host of activities at Seward High. She participated in the SHS Family Community Career Leaders of America (FCCLA) all four years-participating the FCCLA STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) leadership program all four years. She won her division in STAR at Districts three years, qualified for state and qualified/ participated in STAR program on the  national level last year-winning a Silver Medal (Second Place).  Her STAR programs involved Helping the Homeless, Suicide Awareness and Prevention, Global Warming Awareness and Saving the Environment.  

Hannah was a loyal member of the SHS Marching Band, participating in the SHS Award Winning Marching Band all four years of high school-playing the baritone. She also was a member all four years of high school with the SHS Symphonic Band, and SHS Pep Band.

Hannah was a member of the SHS Skills USA -winning the State Skills USA Bridge Building Contest and participating in the Skills USA Speech contest and Medical Terminology Contest.  She was one of the VFW Voice of Democracy Speech Contest winners on the local level and a VFW District Speech contest finalist.  

She participated in the SHS Soccer program and was part of the annual One Act Play competition.  She participated in the annual Nebraska State Fair Education Division program and placed Sixth Place Sweepstakes in the High School programing awards for her art entries.  Her art was recently featured in the student show at the Red Path Gallery SHS Senior Show and she annually participated in the GFWC Seward Women’s Clubs Children Art Contest.

Hannah has been a longtime employee of the local Seward Runza.  Her volunteer work for the “Service Above Self” award has centered around her community service through FCCLA-worked at the Breakfast with Santa, helped at the Recycling Center, worked at the annual Seward Clean-up Day, hosted a booth at the local Health Fair and Suicide Awareness walk, and coordinated a Suicide Awareness and Prevention Week at SHS for three years in a row and sponsored a coin drive to Save the Rain Forests-promoting Environmental awareness.   She volunteered with many of the activities of the Seward Sesquicentennial and worked a various activities for the annual Fourth of July Celebration in Seward.

Hannah is a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward and attended St. John Lutheran Grade School. Her hobbies include reading, her art, horses, and her pet dog and cat.

She plans to attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln to study in the areas Chemistry and Environmental Awareness.

 

Hannah will again be recognized at the annual SHS Honors Night in May and is now a finalist for the annual Seward Rotary Club Youth Rotarian of the Year. The Seward Rotary Club honors one Youth Rotarian of the Month every month of the school year and all of the ten students will be recognized at the annual Honors Night.  Applications are available from the local SHS High School Counselors.
