Seward High Honored at State Capitol at Statehood Event

Seward High was honored at the Nebraska State Capitol on Friday, March 3rd at 1:00 in the Rotunda by the Education Division of the Nebraska State Fair for their outstanding performance and participation in the State Fair education activities.  Seward High won the High School Sweepstakes trophy and was named outstanding Nebraska High School for 2022-23 by the Education Division of the Nebraska State Fair.

Honored were the SHS students, who place first in their division and the Freshman Quiz Bowl team, who also placed first in the contest at the State Fair.  Seniors honored included Julya Metschke, Noah Fields, Abigayil Wunderlich.  Freshman Quiz Bowl Team members who placed first included Sophie Russel, Evi Theobald, Maddelyn Larson, Kayla Albright,  and Ava Slechta.

The team members received the very large Nebraska State Fair High School Sweepstakes Trophy and individual certificates of Honor/Recognition for their First Place wins.  

Attending from Seward was Julya Metschke, Noah Fields, Abigayil Wunderlich, Sophie Russel, Evi Theobald, Maddelyn Larson, Kayla Albright, and Ava Slechta-along with their sponsor/instructor Melissa Pohl.  

Also in attendance was Senator Jana Hughes of Seward, also a Seward High graduate and former member of the School District of Seward Board of Education.  The group toured the capitol and visited Senator Hughes’ office as well.
