“Flora Nebraska” by Noah Fields
A soft gale blows prairie grasses
Such casual beauty
A zephyr entices a river flow
Affirming its rushing animosity
Beige grasses blow affably
Goldenrods waving in time
The grainy morning sunlight
Reverberates through the vastness
The azure skies smile upon spotted trees
Deeply rooted in ancient soils
They bless the ground
Cooling it on a summer’s day
The sun brings forth its aubade
Inviting the blossoms to greet it
Not a toxin mars the landscape
The thistles and verdure grow in harmony
Clays and sods meld together
In an eternal bond, only broken by winding roots
Many a year weathers the plains
But vegetation’s growth always persists
Gently splashing lakes and pools
Bear their algae, proudly painting themselves its color
The earth and heavens join each other
Held in sync by rambling gusts of wind
Together they form a sacred sanctum
Where green life vividly shoots up from soils
And turn brown eventually
It is called Nebraska
