State Bound! SHS Qualifies for Omaha!

 

Seward High’s 2025 Academic Decathlon Team is State Qualifier - one of two in Medium School Division. They now compete at the State against all size levels - and will now add a speech competition, judges’s interview, and essay to the mix of contests!

 

 Two students in the Varsity, Scholastic and Honors levels will compete, along with the Team  Alternates. The State Contest will be held in Omaha. 

 

They were second place- Runner/Up against Omaha Marian - the first place winner in Medium School Division. REGIONAL Medium finalists Including Omaha Marian, Elkhorn North, York, Alliance, Lexington and Seward. 

 

The team is coached by Noelle Baker - an SHS Guidance Counselor and sponsored by the Seward Rotary Club - and Rotarians Amber Fiala and Clark Kolterman. Special Academic Decathlon Team Tee Shirts were donated to the team by the Seward Rotary Club. 

 

The Academic Decathlon theme this year is The Roaring Twenties!” The team will be tested in Math, Literature, Science, Social Science, Economics, Art, Music, Speech and Essay-plus a “Super Quiz Bowl” contest at the end of the day. They will also be quizzed on the novel - “The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald. 

 

The two day event will be held February 20-21 at Bellevue University near Omaha.
